Ariel Lipson is Senior Physicist at BrightView Systems Ltd, Israel. He has contributed to three successful start-up companies in optics, which have influenced several of the topics discussed in this book.

Stephen G. Lipson is Professor of Physics and Electro-optics in the Physics Department of the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Israel. He holds the El-Op Chair of Electro-Optics at Technion where he has taught courses in optics both at elementary and advanced levels.

Henry Lipson was Professor of Physics at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, UK. He was a pioneer in the development of optical Fourier transform methods for solving problems in X-ray crystallography.

This book gives you a very practical way to find that in yourself and encourages you be make the effort to live it, not focsuing on what the world is asking of you but what you are asking of you.

Loved this book! Recommend it highly. The stories are so familiar and applicable. You can lift scenarios and simply journey along with the authors.

This book,,,this book had me truly smiling inside as it teaches that being a true individual is not a bad thing but something to be celebrated and explored. Finally!- not only validation of my unique and wonderful gifts being but acknowledgment that my DIFFERENCE is not a weakness but rather a strength.

Being one who enjoys exploring self, I found the concepts both relatable and exciting to delve into. The process of coming to my word- well that was extremely trying but one of the most fascinating and challenging processes.

If you are a creative, different person looking to expand your idea about yourself and accentuate it- you need to get THIS BOOK.

This book makes real good sense!

I always thought I had to fix my short comings to be accepted by my colleagues. I realize that it is not necessary to change the unique differences we possess. God has given those differences to us deliberately so that we can make a difference by utilizing them. I feel stronger, more confident after having read this book. I now feel that I can look for ways to channel my ID and operate in my 5% "flow zone" to accomplish the purpose that God intended for my life. This is a recommended reading for anyone seeking to maximize their time while here on planet earth!!!

About the Author
Margaret W. Matlin received her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. She currently holds the title of Distinguished Teaching Professor of Psychology at SUNY Geneseo, where she has taught the course in cognitive psychology for 20 years.

Dr. Matlin is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, and the Canadian Psychological Association. She received the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1977, the American Psychological Association’s Teaching of Psychology Award for four-year institutions in 1985, the American Psychological Foundation’s Distinguished Teaching in Psychology Award in 1995, and the Society for the Psychology of Women’s Heritage Award for outstanding lifetime contributions to the teaching of the psychology of women in 2001.

excellent updated material

I purchased this book for three reasons: (1) I Wanted an updated presentation of working memory since 1997. (2) I wanted a detailed presentation of long term memory. (3) And I wanted an un-biased presentation of connectionism. This 6th edition provided all of that. I was impressed. A great resource. Highly recommended.

Yes, it is an undergrad textbook so don't expect the depth of individual specialized volumes. But it's still valuable for your library.

Highly recommended to any chess player wanting to increase his or her knowledge "Isolani" position. Easy to understand and it explains how to use them and play against them. Many elements covered and illustrated using Master games.

If you understand this work, you can crush Class players in IQP positions

The quality of Baburin's work is off the charts. This book opened my eyes to the Isolated Queen's Pawn structure, which I try to get in as many games as I possibly can because this book showed me how to demolish people with it (at my level, Class "A," and even somewhat above my level).

One could call this a "specialized" middlegame text, but because the presence of the IQP is so ubiquitous in chess, this is just an extremely important work, and one that I feel doesn't get as much attention as it deserves.

The whole book is fantastic, but Part 1 (basically, Attacking with the IQP) is absolutely exceptional. THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS, and you MUST know "basic" kingside attacking motifs to get optimal value out of it. But tournament players who go through it will have their eyes opened for sure. This book trains you to play IQP positions with calculation and general principles together! Baburin shows you the plans (even multiple plans in the same opening system) and when faced with such positions you will know almost exactly what to do.

Great book on positional chess

Covers the isolated pawn formation that occurs in several openings such as the caro kan panov, the tarrasch defense to the queens gambit, the nimzo indian defense and the french tarrasch. Covers pros and cons of Isolated Pawns. The major themes related to the isolated pawn, look inside the book to find out the themes. Great bit of analysis. The author goes the extra mile to make the rank amateur understand the concepts. The book is in 3 parts. The first part covering the isolated pawn formations and attacking patterns. Second part covering various endgames that occur from the isolated pawn formation. and the third being covering other pawn formations that the isolated pawn formation can change into. All chapters are good. I really liked the first part where he discusses the various positional strategies for the owner of the isolated pawn and the attacking themes involved followed by serveral illustrated games with good analysis. Also liked the part about how to combat the isolated pawn.
I would recommend this book to anyone who plays the queens gambit, nimzo indian defense, caro kan panov attack, english or french tarrasch, as the isolated pawn formation occurs in these openings. Great book teaching positional strategies. Can't wait for more good books from the same author.

Abrindo o arquivo de X vou me lembrar de seu som no alfabeto que � �ks de anexo, como em X-RAY. No come�o soa z de zebra, como em XANADU, XEROX, XENOPHOBIA. E da segunda letra em diante na palavra X soa ks de fixo, como em MEXICAN, BOX, EXERCISE. Nunca esqueceremos de que no sistema AEIOU + CONS 1 + E/I + VOG a vogal I soa i de mil, como em VIDEO, LINEAR, TRADITION, MATHEMATICIAN. O arquivo de WA diz que esse Grupo soa u�, como em SWAMP, WAS, WATER e SWAT. Em 2 anos se � poss�vel chegar perto dos sons de 1 milh�o de palavras em ingl�s, incluindo afixos, como j� foi comprovado nas 2 mil horas/aula no curso de extens�o e especializa��o em pron�ncia do ingl�s ministrado pelo linguista e Prof. F�bio Alencar de Recife desde 2008. 4 a 0 para as regras

A continuation of "Modern Midges" only filled with terresterial fly patterns.

This book is basically the same as "Modern Midges", only this book is filled with terrestrial patterns, of all kinds. Like the "Modern Midges", it is an excellent source for pattern reference (with recipes for each pattern) and it's filled with 100's of very nice high quality full color pattern pictures. Only reason I'm giving this book 3 stars is because step by step tying instructions for most of the patterns are NOT listed in this book. There are only a few step by steps for a hand full of the "basic patterns" that anybody with any tying experience could figure out how to do without the step by step instructions. Many of the patterns listed in this book are quite complex with many materials used in construction. Having step by steps for the more complex patterns would have been nice to include. In addition to that, there are some fishing techiniques on how to use a few of the patterns listed, but not a lot of history or places to use a specific pattern and why a specific pattern over another for/during certain conditions. These are some things that I think would make this book A LOT better. Although I will use this book in much the same way as I do "Modern Midges" (for pattern reference), as a pro fly tyer/fly fisherman, I would like to know more about the "why's" and "how's" of patterns, not necessarily just a bunch of pictures of fly patterns with recipes... The "how's and why's" as in, why use this material Vs. another similar material for fly construction and how did a pattern "come to be" (pattern history) on certain waters? Knowing things like that can make a difference both on the water and behind the vise and help you know which patterns to have with you when you go fishing... Especially if you're traveling to fish at an unfamiliar area. Like the "Modern Midges" book, this book could be so much more than it is, but, it has found it's niche in my library of tying books and it will be used mainly for pattern reference.
A book for beginners, this is not. I believe this book was intended for more experienced fly tyers and fly fishermen that mostly "know what they're doing" both behind the vise and on the water. If you're just starting out tying flies and looking for a book to help teach you how to do it with full step by step instructions, this is not it... There are many other books that are better suited for teaching and learning to tie flies and tying techniques (IMO). On the other hand, if you're looking for a book mainly consisting of a picture gallery of fly patterns (with their recipes) to use as a pattern reference guide, I haven't seen anything better than this book and also it's predecessor, "Modern Midges".

Excellent fly tying book

I have purchased Modern Terrestrials and it was worth every penny. It has an amazing amount of terrestrials with all the fly tying recipes and a excellent photos of each of the flies. The patterns that they have in this book are of ants, grasshoppers, crickets, moths, cicadas, bees, flies etc. The patterns displayed in this book have been tied by the most famous tiers in the world. Also the authors go over the technique of fishing the patterns and the set-up of the different rigs. The photography is excellent. I also have their Modern Midges and that is also excellent. If you like tying and want an excellent resource book, you can't beat these books.

Good comprehensive list of patterns

This book very thoroughly shows dozens and dozens fly patterns for hoppers, ants and crickets -- and other terrestrials. Some brief mention of tying techniques, and a sequence of tying photos for a handful of standard patterns is thrown in. So, if you are interested in a pictorial summary of the vast array of modern terrestrial patterns, this is it. There is very little text, with some sections on various fishing techniques and approaches. It is also a spiral-bound hardback. Overall, it's much like the midge book that the authors did a couple of years ago as far as format and approach (and like the midge book, while it claims to present the "world's best", it is very US/CO-centric). It could be vastly improved, as could the midge book, if more discussion of origin and details on each pattern were included - this is the kind of information/knowledge a buyer of these type of books would expect the authors to (know and) present.

Loved this book so much!

I am a suscriber to Inner Expansion and I have been waiting for this book. Howard has brought alot of things home for me. I feel as if a weight has been lifted from me. Because I know now all of the feelings of guilt and other emotions don't belong to me. This book makes you really think and how we can improve our lives. We can live more productively and simply without taking on the burdens of others. Keep up the good work!
