A Dose of Reality

If you have ever patronized a bar or been a bartender or waitress, you will connect with The Cocktail Waitress. In spite of this book's being the result of scholarly research, it is as readable as a novel.
Spradley and his associates observe what occurs in a bar near a college, describing the culture established in the bar. Most readers can identify with at least one of the characters as the hierarchy of roles comes into play. The bartenders (male) are the ostensible dominant figures, and the cocktail waitresses have to act within the unwritten rules that the baartenders establish.
I have spoken with several cocktail waitresses currently working at college bars near my college. They assure me that little has changed in the twenty-odd years since the study was completed and today.

Excellent

This book is THE book to learn correctly ARM assembly language programming. The author explains everything, even the aspects that seems obvious for expert in ARM and that are a real pain to bigginers. Gibson also succeeded at keeping his book independent from a specific platform, or specific cpu family. The book starts with very short and easy programs and goes deeper in explaining in details all aspects of the instruction set.
I really appreciated it. With the knowlege you got from this book, you can dive in ANY other advanced book on ARM (even ARM doc). You'll be for sure able to read and understand any ASM source code (if you really practice a lot and do all exercices of this book of course).
I contacted the author by mail for various questions, and I must say that I got answers very quickly and M Gibson gave really a lot of interrest and really analysed the problems.

disappointing

There is no suggestion of assembler or platform on which to test. Even worse, there is not much assmembly code in the assmembly language book. There are many good books for ARM, such as ARM System Developer's Guide(Sloss et. al), ARM system-on-chip architecture(Furber), ARM Architecture Reference Manual(Seal), ... but I was looking for an introductory assembly language for undergradudate course. This book is not better than information found in the Internet. If I have had a chance to see a few pages before I order it, It would never have bought it. Still I am waiting for a good book for newbies.

all about james-the man-the legend

this covers eveything about king james. from his birth to death. it has ALOT of illustrations- some are in black/white and some are color. it even shows examples of james's handwriting. this book covers the whole life of james and reveals much more about all the people involved with james and all the events in his life. i would suggest this as a "starter" book for someone wanting to learn about king james. an awesome book! do not pass this up.

I loved the biography on his mother so I decided to get this. This book is really good but far too short. It has too many photos and not enough words. I needed something a bit more detailed but its a great work nonetheless.

Simha R. Magal, Ph.D. is Professor of Management (MIS) and Director, ERP initiative, in the Seidman College of Business, Grand Valley State University, Michigan.� He received his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia.� His primary research interests include e-business and enterprise systems.� His articles have appeared in such publications as MIS Quarterly, Journal of MIS, and Information and Management, among others.� He is Editor of AISWorld Net� aisworld.org and has served on the editorial boards of several journals.� He served as co-chair of the inaugural conference of the Midwest Association for Information Systems (MWAIS) in 2006 and as the president of MWAIS during 2008-2009.

Jeffrey Word, Ph.D., is vice president of product strategy at SAP AG. He is responsible for defining SAP's future product strategy and for fostering product innovation within SAP. Dr. Word has worked for several Global 1000 companies in the high-tech industry for nearly 20 years, specializing in business and IT strategy. At SAP, he has driven the evolution of the company's enterprise technology strategy, with a special focus on corporate process improvement initiatives and services-based IT architecture design. Learn ERP by focusing on underlying processes

This book does an excellent job presenting how companies can effectively use ERP by focusing on common business processes: procurement, production, and fulfillment. The books makes a clear and succinct presentation of how functional areas of an organization interact through triggers created by various types of documents within these processes. Not only are these documents discussed, but facsimiles of document 'hard copies' are presented so that readers can see the paper equivalents of documents that are increasingly electronic only. Because of the clarity of the presentation, regardless of one's background knowledge of business processes, the material is easy to understand yet not written in a way that would seem simplistic to a knowledgeable reader.

When used as a textbook, the book has a number of very positive features. The chapters are short, so students don't get overwhelmed with content. The document illustrations mentioned previously are very well done. Key terms are highlighted and well defined in the text. Supporting stories and examples are used, but not to excess. I have found the book better than books that are much longer because of its focus on keeping things simple. Students like the book as well, which is rare for most textbooks.

For classes where students are introduced to ERP for the first time (particularly SAP ERP), I believe this is the best book on the market at this time. For professionals and others unfamiliar with ERP but wanting to get a sense of what it is, how it works, and what its benefit is to an organization, this book is well worth the read and a fraction of the cost you'd pay for other books.

Magal and Word have written a unique book about integrated business processes that combines reading with hands-on practice. The on-line exercises from WileyPLUS complement the book and offer a way to practice the concepts presented in their book. Although the book supports SAP it is a good starting point to understanding the basic concepts of any integrated system and the possible process improvements that can be achieved.

Tennis, for those who are avid and willing to learn more, requires attention to the fundamentals of the serve, the approach shot, etc. (Many a 3.0 or 3.5 club player needs to pay attention even to the fundamentals rather than relying on an endless parade of moonshots/loopy-doopys or just whacking the ball, but that is another essay.
What Vic Braden (and Brad Gilbert) emphasize is the mental side of the game. The only alternative to learning from these books is learning from the tenacity and intensity of Rafa Nadal. For most of us who seek to consistently win both would be best. And lessons from a Pro', say, at the club.
Whatever is done one does have to be committed to change to improve, I'm just saying... .

Required Text for Class

I was pleased to be able to rent this textbook, which is required for a class I am taking. It is rather expensive to have to purchase a book at full price, especially if you are taking more than one class. It's nice to have the option of renting. The book arrived in good condition, as promised. Interesting content. Recommended to those interested in learning more about leadership and how to develop their own skills in this area.

The arrival of a long-lost absent father forces a Manhattan man to come to terms with an ongoing romantic triangle in Tropper's latest, a funny, sensitive and occasionally over-the-top comic novel that revolves around the calamitous life of 32-year-old Zack King. King's a horrible job as a corporate drone for a supply company is balanced by his impending marriage to Hope, his gorgeous, successful fianc�e. But chaos comes with the arrival of his wacky divorced father, Norm, who left Zack and his two brothers after his wife used graphic pictures of his infidelity as the backdrop for the family Christmas cards. Norm makes himself an unwelcome guest as Zack tries to deal with a potentially devastating health problem and a job crisis that makes him realize how much he hates his life. But the real problem is Zack's growing attraction to Tamara, the beautiful, recently widowed single mother who was married to Zack's friend Rael until a car accident took Rael's life and left Zack alive during an ill-fated road trip to Atlantic City. Viagra-popping Norm becomes increasingly cartoonish as the novel unfolds, and the triangle material is boilerplate, but pithy observations on love, marriage and corporate life give the book a graceful charm. Tropper continues to display a fine feel for romantic comedy in this enjoyable follow-up to The Book of Joe.

Tropper, author of Plan B (2000) and The Book of Joe (2004), offers up the story of Zachary King, a man in his early thirties facing a possible health crisis and major life changes. Zack is engaged to a beautiful woman, Hope, and slogging through his trying job as a middleman when he discovers blood in his urine. He makes a trip to the doctor, and as he waits for the results, he starts to question everything in his life. His job is thankless, and he is in danger of losing a big account because of another's mistake; his perfect fiancee doesn't look nearly as good to him as his best friend's widow, Tamara; and his feckless father, Norm, has dropped back into Zack's life, and for the first time, Zack finds himself inclined to consider letting the man in. As with any great comedy, high jinks ensue, including a hilarious scene where Zack, Norm, and Zack's roommate try to track down Zack's doctor. But the novel is also grounded by the serious issues at its heart: the tragic death of Zack's best friend, Norm's abandonment of his family, and Zack's struggle to do the right thing.
